We are a "general" law firm. Practically speaking, that means we touch lots of different areas, as our clients bring matters to us. One client may have us do a will, then come back for income taxes, or to buy a home or to start up a business. However, we don't work in every area, and we promise we will let you know if you would be better served by another firm for your issue.
You are an adult. You should have a Will to nominate a person to sort out your estate when you die. You should have advance directives to nominate persons who can speak and act for you during life if you cannot. Perhaps you should also have a trust. We can explain your options
We have helped with adoptions, prenuptial agreements, divorce, guardianships for minors and court supervised conservatorships for persons who have not identified their alternate decision makers. We currently will suggest other practitioners to help you with these matters.
We know YOU will never need to contact us about this area of law. But maybe your child, away from home at school, is charged for making some bad decisions. Who do you call? Perhaps, us. This is John's cup of tea.
Buying a home is often the biggest financial transaction one makes in life. Selling a home is often the second. Wouldn't it be good to know what to expect, before you are committed?
You have to file income tax returns. Perhaps you don't want to do them any more, or you have an unusual situation this year (selling your home or farmland, or you receive a K-1 from an estate or business.)
We prepare at competitive prices and e-file tax returns for clients who are individuals, businesses, trusts, estates, residents and non-residents. Our professional software means we can prepare returns for any state and locality.
We do not practice immigration law, but we know who does. We refer all inquiries to the Barten Law Office of Ames, Iowa. Their website is found here:
